The need to connect a battery in series arises from time to time. But not everyone knows how to do it correctly.
When and why should you use a battery series connection?
For example, suppose you bought a body weight scale with a 3-volt battery. It will fail in about six months, but you might not find similar batteries available nearby. Therefore, a series connection is useful.
You can take 2 AA batteriesand connect them together with two poles. Solder a wire to the remaining contacts or simply tape them. Then connect the ends of the wires to the device, observing polarity.
To make this connection, all you need to do is take two batteries and touch them end-to-end. Attach a wire to the protruding ends. The connection is now complete.
How to weld a contact to a battery?
To solder a wire or piece of metal to a power source, you will need the following:
- With a soldering iron.
- With rosin or soldering acid.
- Solder in the form of tin.
Before soldering batteries, their contacts must be cleaned if they are corroded or oxidized. Soldering can be done easily at home.
Next, apply rosin or soldering acid to the solder joint and attach the wire. Then, touch the soldering iron to the solder and solder the wire to the battery.
If you want to solder batteries together, it's quite difficult. But you can try. Here's the procedure:
- Dip both ends in acid.
- Touch the soldering iron to the tin and take a little of it.
- Tin the battery terminals.
- Dip the ends of the batteries in acid again.
- Apply the poles to each other.
- Grab as much tin as possible and apply the hot soldering iron tip with solder to the desired location.
- Perform soldering.
