An indicator screwdriver is a relatively miniature device for measuring voltage. These devices are manufactured both with and without batteries. A battery expands the functionality of this tester.
Here are its functions:
- Allows you to find the cathode and anode of a diode.
- Gives an understanding of where the zero phase is.
- Find the broken wire. Check the bulbs and fuses for damage.
- Allows you to find out if there is current on an insulated wire.
- Finds hidden wiring in the wall.

The screwdriver can operate for up to 5 hours on battery power.
Depending on the model of the dial indicator screwdriver, the compartment may be on the side or in the center. If it's in the center, you may need to remove all the internal components. In this case, remember the order in which the parts were installed during disassembly. With a side compartment, everything is simpler: just slide the cover off and that's it.
It is not recommended to use the device when the batteries are discharged.
