Metal corrosion can sometimes be a real nuisance. It typically appears anywhere metal is present, such as a sink, bathtub, car, bicycle, or bodywork. Some DIYers have learned to remove rust using a battery. But how exactly is this done? We'll discuss this below.
How to remove rust using a battery?
Before you begin this procedure, you will need to stock up on the following items:
- Special soldering acid. You'll need one bottle. Price range: 25-35 rubles.
- Batteries format AAsalt chemistry. They are checked with a magnet. If there is no attraction, then salineThese batteries are inexpensive, costing around 20 rubles. This type of battery has a zinc casing.
- A small cloth, cotton pads, or a bandage. Choose one or the other.
- Wire.
- Special clamps for fastening or some kind of rubber band.
- Water and a little baking soda to remove the acid.
- Paint – required if the item has been painted. For example, a car might have a rust scratch. Remove the rust and then paint over it.
Step-by-step action plan
- Remove the label from the battery.
- We wrap the wire around the power source. First, we strip 2 cm of the wire on both sides. Next, we separate the wires into two equal sections. Then, we wrap them around the battery. The insulated part of the wire is also wrapped around the battery with several turns.
- We secure the wire using a regular rubber band.
- The second part of the wire is connected to the crocodile clip with the exposed area.
- Place a cotton swab with the center to the negative end of the battery and secure it with a rubber band.
- After this, we wet the cotton wool with soldering acid.
- We attach the free wire to the positive pole of the battery.
- We press the cotton-wool side of our device against the rust. The reaction begins, and after a while, a layer of zinc becomes visible where the rust stain was. The battery-powered rust removal was successful!
After this procedure, the corrosion process will no longer occur. All that remains is to remove the acid with a soda solution.
