Usually, it's the old battery that swells, but sometimes it happens to a new battery too. So what should you do if you've encountered this and your beloved smartphone has swelled up?
What to do if your phone battery is swollen
And how to fix a swollen battery?
First of all, if the battery is swollen, do the following:
- Stop using it.
- Do not charge - this will increase the swelling of the iPhone or smartphone's power source.
- Don't even think about repairing the battery yourself. Tampering with it could cause an explosion.
- Contact a service center or replace the battery with a new one.
There is a way to fix a swollen phone battery. But it's at your own risk.
How to fix a swollen battery?
We will reanimate a swollen battery in two ways.
Method No. 1.
Almost every aluminum-cased mobile phone battery has a special window underneath the circuit board containing the electronic components. The window is made of foil, making it easy to puncture and allow the accumulated gas to escape.
Sometimes the body is made of iron, and instead of foil there is a ball like in a bearing, only a hundred times smaller.
After the gas has been released, the hole must be sealed. Use Moment adhesive or silicone sealant.
Method No. 2.
This method is suitable for batteries with an aluminum case. Here's what to do if your smartphone battery swells:
- Take a needle.
- Pierce the power supply housing by tapping the needle. Pierce the housing at an angle to avoid damaging the power supply's plates. If damaged, the plates will fuse together, causing a fire.
- After the puncture, a smell will appear - this means the case has been punctured.
- Clamp the phone battery in a vice between the two plates.
- Apply pressure gradually and not too hard. You want to return the battery to its original condition.
- Plug the hole from the needle with Moment glue or epoxy resin.
Now you know what to do if your battery swells! But the surest way to solve this problem is to buy a new power source!
Why do smartphone batteries swell?
Swelling indicates an abnormal chemical reaction. Gas has accumulated in the battery where it shouldn't be. When exposed to oxygen, this gas vapor can ignite.
Reasons why a battery power source swells:
- Defective factory deliveries. This is discovered within the first few days of using the smartphone.
- Charging your phone incorrectly. Don't let the battery drain completely, leave it on charge for too long, or charge it incompletely.
- A strong impact when dropping your phone can damage the battery and cause swelling.
- Contact with water will damage the battery.
- Battery expiration date.
- Closing contacts.
- Using a non-original charger or a device purchased on the market to charge a smartphone.
- Temperature fluctuations, i.e. using the device in different temperature conditions.
- Incorrect storage of the phone.
Signs of battery swelling
You can tell that the battery is starting to swell by the following signs:
- It's difficult to close the smartphone cover; the battery case is in the way.
- 100% battery life ensures the phone operates for a couple of hours.
- I often have to charge my mobile phone
- Turns on and off randomly
- The smartphone has been working for more than 2 years
In this condition, it is quite difficult to use the phone.
What is the danger of a swollen battery?
People don't see anything wrong with a swollen battery. They use it as long as the lid closes and the phone works.
The danger is as follows:
- A swollen battery can damage the display of a mobile phone by bulging.
- The battery may catch fire.
- There is a possibility of explosion and complete damage to the phone.
