If you notice your G Shock watch stops working, the backlight goes out, or some features aren't working, check the battery. It's likely the battery that's at fault.
G Shock battery specifications
So, first, let's figure out what kind of batteries the G Shock uses. Since there are many watches under this name, there should be many batteries. But in reality, this is not the case. The G Shock basically requires a battery. CR1220at 3 volts.
Casio G Shock watches use two types of batteries:
- Ordinary.
- Solar.
The first ones include SR927W, CR2016, CR1220, CR2025The lifespan of such power sources varies from 2 to 10 years. Batteries last 10 years if used in simple watches without a second hand.
Some watches have two batteries. The first is for the watch itself, and the second for the backlight.
The second type includes the CTL920 and CTL1616, ML2016, and MT621, which are essentially rechargeable batteries. Their main advantage is solar charging, which means they can last 7-10 years.

Replacing the battery in a Casio G Shock watch
To change the battery, simply follow the simple algorithm discussed below.
Tools for changing the current source G shock
- Depending on the design of the lid, you will need a screwdriver or a watch key.
- An unnecessary toothbrush.
- Silicone grease.
- Plastic and metal tweezers.
- A new 3 volt current element prepared in advance.
There are two types of G-Shock covers, one with a special key, and the other with screws. To remove the screws, it's best to use a thin screwdriver. A Phillips screwdriver is recommended, as the bolts are so weak that they can easily be damaged.
Before using the watch, make sure it's free of dust and dirt. Wipe it thoroughly.
Battery replacement algorithm
- Remove the cover using tweezers, a screwdriver or a special key.
- Using plastic tweezers, gently pull out the rubber backing.
- Using the same tool, remove the protective sealing ring.
- Open the battery compartment latch.
- Remove the used element with plastic tweezers. This will prevent a short circuit.
- Install a new energy source.
- Now close the battery compartment using the tool you used earlier.
- Short the AC contacts from the negative pole to the chassis. This should be noted on the attached piece of paper. These contacts are marked, making them easy to find. The shorting is performed using metal tweezers.
- Next, press the "A" button. This will reset the old settings. After that, you need to set the time.
- Replace the rubber seal and backing.
- Close the lid.
After this procedure is complete, check your G Shock watch. Make sure to insert the battery correctly, and everything will be fine! This procedure also works for Casio Edifice watches.
